Minehead: Third Time's the Charm
Minehead: Third Time's the Charm @fishingwithkevy Lessons Learned and a New Game Plan If you've been following my Minehead adventures, you know it's been a wild ride. Mother Nature has thrown everything at me, from gale-force winds to monstrous waves, and even a few humbling lessons in humility. But as any angler knows, perseverance is the name of the game. Each trip has been a learning experience, allowing me to adapt and refine my tactics. Trip one was a baptism by fire at White Mark. The scenery was breathtaking, but the elements were relentless. While the smooth hounds remained elusive, I gained a newfound respect for the raw power of the ocean. Trip two, also at White Mark, was another solo showdown against the elements. Armed with a pennel pulley rig and high hopes, I targeted smooth hound. However, a critical error in bait presentation left me with nothing but a valuable lesson in humility. These experiences have been invaluable. I've learned to respect the unpredictable nature of the sea, to meticulously consider rig and bait choices, and most importantly, to embrace adaptability. Every trip, every cast, is an opportunity to learn and grow as an angler. Today marks my third attempt at conquering Minehead's fishing grounds. Armed with newfound knowledge and a refined approach, I'm back at White Mark. This time, I've switched to a short pennel rig, resized my bait, and my confidence is soaring. White Mark, Round Three: Third Time Lucky? The sun is struggling to break through a thick blanket of clouds, casting an ominous shadow over the rugged coastline of White Mark. A chill wind whips across the rocks, sending shivers down my spine and hinting at the familiar adversary I'm about to face: the unpredictable British weather. It's a scene all too familiar from my previous two trips to Minehead, but this time, something feels different. This isn't just round three; it's the third time I've set foot on this very spot, rod in hand, with the unwavering determination to finally land a fish. The past setbacks, the battles against the elements, and the lessons learned have all led to this moment. They say the third time's the charm, and today, I'm determined to prove that adage true. Despite the less-than-ideal conditions, there's a fire burning within me, fueled by resilience and a well-honed strategy. I've meticulously prepared my gear, carefully selected my bait, and visualized success. Today, I'm not just fishing; I'm embarking on a personal quest to conquer both the sea and my past experiences. The tide is turning, and with it, my fortunes. It's time to cast my line, to channel my unwavering focus, and to prove that perseverance, combined with a little luck, can overcome any obstacle. Let's see if this third trip to Minehead will finally be the one that brings a well-deserved victory. Low Tide Blues at White Mark and a Last-Minute Gamble The low tide at White Mark has proven to be a challenging adversary. Despite my best efforts and flashing techniques, the fish have remained elusive. The sea seems to mirror my frustration, holding its secrets close to its chest. With only an hour of daylight remaining, and a growing sense of defeat, I decide to make one final, desperate move. I pack up my gear and head to the harbor wall, hoping for a change of luck in the waning minutes of my trip. Triumph in the Final Hour: A Lesson in Perseverance As I cast my line at the harbor wall, a wave of resignation washes over me. I'm ready to call it a day, mentally preparing for another Minehead defeat. But just as I begin to lose hope, my rod twitches violently. A surge of adrenaline courses through my veins as I strike hard, feeling the satisfying weight of a fish on the line. A tangle of seaweed surfaces first, but beneath it, I sense a powerful tug. A smooth hound! My first from Minehead! The fight is intense, the fish pulling hard towards the rocks, but I manage to guide it safely to my feet. With shaking hands, I capture a few quick photos before releasing my prize back into the depths. The elation I feel is overwhelming. After three trips, countless casts, and a rollercoaster of emotions, I've finally achieved my goal. This hard-fought victory is a testament to the power of perseverance, the importance of never giving up, and the magic that can happen when you push through those final moments of doubt. Minehead: Conquered (At Last!) So, was the third time the charm? Absolutely. But more importantly, this trip taught me that success isn't just about skill or luck; it's about unwavering determination, adaptability, and the willingness to go that extra mile. Minehead may have tested my patience, but in the end, it rewarded my perseverance. And that, my friends, is the true beauty of fishing – the thrill of the chase, the lessons learned along the way, and the sweet taste of victory that makes every challenge worth it. #fishingwithkevy
Minehead: Wind and Waves at White Mark
Mother Nature unleashed her fury on Minehead's White Mark, but that didn't stop me from embarking on a solo fishing adventure. This time, zen took a backseat to adrenaline as I battled gusty winds and rough seas, proving that fishing isn't always about the catch. Panel Pulley Rig vs. the Elements Armed with my trusty panel pulley rig and a gut feeling, I went against conventional wisdom and cast out hefty bait despite the conditions. The smooth hounds remained elusive, save for one small fish, but the experience of battling the elements and testing my skills against the unpredictable ocean was a reward in itself. Lessons from the Deep The rough seas provided valuable lessons. I learned that even with the right gear and tactics, nature has the final say. It was a humbling reminder to respect the power of the ocean and to always be prepared for the unexpected. Mother Nature: 1, Angler: 0. This time. The Verdict: Memories Over Measurements White marks stunning scenery, the thrill of battling the elements, and the solitude of the sea made this trip unforgettable. It was a testament to the fact that fishing is about more than just reeling in a catch. It's about embracing the journey, the challenges, and the sheer joy of being in nature. The Bait & Rig Blunder Minehead Solo Trip: Smooth Hound on the Mind, But Bait & Rigs Need a Tune-Up Perfect weather, stunning scenery – Minehead was living up to its reputation, but the fishing? Well, that's where things got interesting. This trip was a solo mission, laser-focused on smooth hound, those elusive predators of the sandy shallows. However, the initial results weren't quite matching the hype. The Bait & Rig Blunder While I was feeling the zen of solo fishing, the smooth hound weren't feeling my bait presentation. I was using what I thought was a surefire setup for these fish, but it turns out, I was missing a crucial detail. My bait was just too big, and the hook was completely buried. It became painfully obvious after multiple missed runs – those telltale tugs followed by slack line. The smooth hound were interested, but they couldn't get a proper hold of the bait. It was like offering a giant sandwich to someone with a tiny mouth! The Dongle Rig Revelation Enter the dongle rig. This rig is renowned for its effectiveness when targeting smooth hound. Its shorter trace and more compact presentation make it easier for the fish to inhale the bait, resulting in solid hookups. I also plan to downsize my bait significantly on my next outing. I'll be using smaller chunks of peeler crab or squid, ensuring the hook point is exposed and ready for action. Lessons Learned (The Hard Way) This trip was a humbling experience. It taught me that even with extensive research and preparation, there's always something new to learn. It's a reminder that adaptability is key in fishing. Sometimes, you need to make adjustments on the fly to outsmart your target species. What's Next? I'm already itching for a rematch with the smooth hound of Minehead. Armed with my newfound knowledge of bait size and rig selection, I'm confident that next time, those missed runs will turn into bent rods and screaming drags. Have you ever had a similar experience where a simple change in rig or bait made all the difference? Share your stories and tips in the comments below! Website Content Analysis
Good Foundations:
You've got a clear distinction between the .com (International) and .co.uk (UK) versions, which is essential!
Intros on each site effectively communicate the audience focus.
Suggestions for Improvement:
Expand Each Section: Your provided content is more like placeholder text. Here's where to beef things up:
International Fishing Adventures (.com):
Name a few competitions you've participated in.
List 2-3 exotic locations you've fished.
Tease an interesting story about a memorable catch overseas.
UK Fishing Hotspots (.co.uk):
List 3-4 general UK regions (e.g., Southwest England, Wales, Scotland)
Mention species commonly targeted in each.
Call to Action: Add something at the end of each section to encourage further exploration on your site:
.com: "Ready for your next fishing adventure? Check out my blog for in-depth tips!"
.co.uk: "Want to know the best bait for your region? Read my UK bait guide."

The Journey: Be Prepared
When fishing in South Devon, it is important to be aware of the tides and currents.

Think of the drive as part of the charm. Those narrow country roads add a sense of discovery to your mission! To maximize your fishing time and minimize frustration, embrace those early morning starts or late-night sessions - especially when the summer crowds roll in. And low tide opens up spots like Mill Bay, so do your tide research.
It is also important to check the local fishing regulations before you go fishing.

Inshore boat fishing is fishing from a boat in easy sight of land and in water less than about 30 metres deep. The boat can be as small as a dinghy. It can be a row boat, a runabout, an inflatable or a small cabin cruiser. Inshore boats are typically small enough to be carried on a trailer, and are much more affordable than offshore fishing boats. In recent times fishing from a kayak has become popular. Anglers either use an uptide rod between 9 and 10 feet in length to cast from the boat or a shorter downtide rod between 6 and 8 feet. Lines are usually between 18 pounds and 50 pounds breaking strain dependent on the species of fish being targeted. Reels are usually multipliers, although fixed spool reels are being used more and more. Baits are similar to those used for beach and rock fishing except they are often larger since larger fish are targeted. The species will include all the beach species, but now also include big conger eels and small sharks like tope and smoothhound.

Ditch End (North & South): Variety is the name of the game here. The North is family-friendly with its shallows, while the South promises deeper water and bigger fish. Keep an eye out for bass, they love to mix it up!

Offshore boat fishing, sometimes called deep sea or open water fishing, is fishing in deep water (more than 30 metres) and at some distance from land. It is dangerous compared to shallow water or lake fishing. More knowledge is needed about weather patterns, navigation and safety precautions, and this is not an activity for beginners. Offshore boats are generally much larger than inshore boats, and may need to be moored in a marina. They are sturdily constructed so they can brave the weather and water conditions encountered in open waters. Though they differ in design and purpose and prices vary widely they are generally expensive to build and maintain. Most offshore recreational fishermen charter boats rather than own them. It is often a pastime of the affluent, and there is a demand for charter boats equipped and catered to luxurious excess. Offshore game fish, like marlin and tuna, can be very large and heavy tackle is needed. Fishing is usually done with sea rods, such as downtide rods, with lines of 30 to 50 pounds and multiplier reels. Baits are the same as for inshore fishing and include squid and whole mackerel as well as artificial lures such as perks. Fishing takes place over reefs and wrecks for very large cod, ling and congers.

One of the most important aspects of a successful fishing trip is having the right gear. There are many factors to consider when choosing your gear, such as the type of fish you want to catch, the location you will be fishing in, and the weather conditions.
KEVIN IAN HARE LIMITED
Rod and Reel: You don't need to go super fancy for this kind of fishing. A decent beachcasting rod that can comfortably throw some light weights will do the trick. Pair it with a reel that feels good in your hand, and load it with some basic fishing line. You'll likely be chucking baits a short distance, so casting power isn't everything.
Two worthy winners – Jason Williams and Liam Smith from Sea Raider.
SAC23-008 Chelle Tim Ralph Tom Emmence
With 606 centimeters of fish caught so far today, they're definitely holding their own against the bigger boats.
Fishing RodsMarine fishing
Rigs: Keep it simple! For grabbing those flatties like plaice and flounder, think small hooks with some flashy beads to get their attention. A couple of these on a basic rig and you're ready to go. If you're feeling adventurous, a simple running ledger rig gives you a little more feel for those bites.
The winners were Jason Williams and Liam Smith from Sea Raider.

Although they haven't caught any ray or bream, they have managed to catch smoothhounds and, perhaps most significantly, the biggest of the shark species that count in this competition - a 311-centimeter tope.
The type of fishing rod you choose will depend on the type of fish you want to catch. For example, if you are planning to catch larger fish, you will need a stronger rod. On the other hand, if you are targeting smaller fish, a lighter rod will suffice.
https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/15593821
Bait: Ragworms and lugworms are your go-to baits – they work for pretty much everything. For the bigger plaice, grab some peeler crab – it's like candy to them! And if you want to tempt a ray, a whole fresh peeler is hard to beat.
Jason Lee Williams and Liam Smith won a boat, engine, electronic equipment and a trailer worth £135,000 after coming first in the Sea Angling Classic 2023.

With the clock ticking down, if they can manage to pinch just one or two breams or a ray right at the end, they could be pushing the other two boats who are currently in the top two places all the way to the end.
When selecting a fishing reel, you will need to consider the type of fishing you will be doing. There are many different types of fishing reels, including baitcasting reels, spinning reels, and spincast reels. Baitcasting reels are ideal for catching larger fish, while spinning reels are better for smaller fish.
A comfy rod rest: You don't want to hold your rod all day.
It is a two-day event that attracts anglers from all over the world.

33 Paintball's success in the competition is a testament to the skill and determination of its crew.
The fishing line you choose will depend on the type of fishing you will be doing. If you are fishing in clear water, you will need a clear fishing line. On the other hand, if you are fishing in murky water, you will need a dark fishing line.

SMOOTH-HOUNDS: In this event.size does matter! Smoothound will be abundant within the solent by the time the Sea Angling Classic rolls around, and for many, they will be seen alongside the bream as a certain catch. So why worry about how to target them? Last year, the result came down to a single centimetre, so working out how to target specimens and picking the bigger fish out from a pack could prove crucial Utilising what we know about hounds feeding habits and the prevalent prey in the area, we can Isolate a number of baits likely to appeal to them within the solent. The standard go to of a peeler crab fished over mixed to rough ground is sure to see plenty of pack hounds come to the boat whilst hardbacks will still appeal, alongside spider peeler, squid, hermit crab and ragworm. There's very little you won't catch them on, but will choice of bait make a difference to size? Zoological studies continue to inform us a lot about different Elasmobranch species. Whilst confirming that we only have starry hounds in our waters, not commons (albeit some don't have visible 'stars), studies have also shown that as hounds grow, their feeding habits evolve. Unsurprisingly, larger hounds progress from consuming small shore crabs to larger crab, such as peeling spiders or more often to squid and even cuttle It's never a coincidence that large specimen hounds continue to be caught late into the season when the big shoals of squid turn up A fresh squid, if you can get it, is certainly your best bet to secure that larger fish There's little reason to increase the hook size for a larger fish though, as hounds retain relatively small mouths for their size. No more than a 3/0 should be required, whilst ensuring the point of the hook is kept proud and sharp, presented on a long flowing trace Keeping company with similar size fish is very common in the marine world. As such, if you're 20 hounds in and they've all been of a similar size you're likely wasting your time trying to gain just a few centimetres with the next fish on that same patch Most of the larger hounds will turn up alongside the tope. It's unlikely that they have taken to shoaling with the pack tope and perhaps more down to the tope's fondness of a freshly pupped hound to feed on which the larger female hounds will be due to give birth to at this time of year. The faster tidal currents in which the tope are found will also be more suiting to a larger hound. In conclusion, by all means get 3 hounds of a 'stamp size in the bag early with peeler crab and rag baits, but then seek to pick up the bigger fish alongside tope or rays in more tidal areas with squid baits
